Children Moving Away from Guernsey
When the social worker is notified that the family is leaving, or has left the area, they will immediately inform the duty social worker in the area that the child has moved to or is moving to.
The social worker will send copies of up to date Child Protection Case Conference minutes and their child protection plan and establish whether the duty social worker will inform their register holder. If not then they will ensure that the relevant register holder is notified immediately.
The social worker should clarify with their senior whether they will be asking the local social work department to support them with visits, checks etc and confirm any request in writing.
Notifying the Quality Assurance Manager
The social worker will inform the Quality Assurance Manager for Services for Children and Young People (telephone 256923) of the following:
- change in circumstances confirming that the child has been put on the receiving authorities register for information
- details of the name and contact number for the person they spoke to
- what contact/support has been requested
- what written information has been sent.
Once the social worker is satisfied that the child is remaining in that area they will write advising that the allocated social worker should be contacted direct regarding a date for transfer. The allocated social worker needs to inform the Quality Assurance Manager for Services for Children and Young People who will make sure that the Child Protection Register is adjusted. The case responsible social worker may attend the transfer Child Protection Case Conference.
The transfer conference should take place within the reviewing authority's timescale for holding child protection case conferences. Until the transfer case conference has happened and made a decision, the case remains the responsibility of the authority which holds the name of the child on their register.
On return from the transfer in Child Protection Case Conference the social worker will inform the duty Quality Assurance Manager for Services for Children and Young People who will remove the child's details from the Island's Child Protection Register.
