Early Help Assessment & Team Around the Family (TAF)

The Early Help Assessment and Team Around the Family process provide families with emerging needs the right support at the right time, to prevent escalation.

Early Help Assessment

An Early Help Assessment, also known as EHA, is a solution focused tool used to open up conversations between professionals and families. This assessment tool enabales further exploration of the family's current situation including their strengths, and aids in identifying any emerging needs.

Early Help Assessments are completely voluntary and require the family's consent and engagement throughout.

This tool is most beneficial for families that have low level needs (Level 2 of the Threshold Framework), that could be met through focused short-term intervention.

Early Help Assessments are aimed at promoting a coordinated Early Help response, to ensure that each family receives the right support at the right time, reducing the need for statutory intervention in the long term.

Team Around the Family

Team Around the Family, also known as 'TAF' is a meeting between a child, young person, their family and a group of professionals who are working with them.

TAF meetings occur every 6-12 weeks, however, this can be altered to meet the needs of the family.

The purpose of Team Around the Family meetings is to share information and to create a solution focused action plan that will support the holistic needs of the child and family. The family's voice should be at the centre of all discussions and decisions, as the family's engagement is key to influencing positive change.

TAF meetings can be held for multiple children within one family, as the Team around the Family approach is designed to encompass the needs of the family as a whole.
